Government to persue legal action against Altaf over anti-army remarks

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Government on Tuesday informed the National Assembly’s standing committee on Defence to peruse a legal action against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain over his derogatory remarks against armed forces of the country.

Secretary Defence Muhammad Alam Khatak, in a hearing at committee, said that ISPR has given its opinion on Hussain’s remarks and the Ministry of Defence also maintains the same stance.

He assured the members of the committee that a legal action will be taken against the MQM chief over his remarks.

Asfandyar Bhindara, a member of the committee, raised his concerns over the recent statement of MQM chief during the meeting and demanded the government to take action him. The view was endorsed by the Committee Chairman Sheikh Rohail Asghar as well.

DG ISPR Major-General Asim Saleem Bajwa termed the remarks from Ataf Hussain as disgusting in a series of tweets and threaten him of legal action.

Earlier MQM Chief Altaf Hussain had criticized the armed forces of Pakistan in an address to the party workers but apologized to Pakistan Army and the nation upon political pressure.
