SIALKOT – Lamenting over the disqualification of former foreign minister Khwaja Asif, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that a country cannot prosper until its politicians are given due respect.
Addressing a foundation ceremony of extending Sialkot-Pasrur road, the prime minister said that a politician should be given the same amount of respect as the army and the judiciary.
He asked if it was in favour of the country to disqualify a politician for life, adding that Asif just possessed Iqama (work permit) which is used for a visa. The premier supporting the bigwig of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said that Asif paid taxes on his income.
“Giving respect to vote and politicians is only way to put the country on a road to development,” Abbasi, said, adding that Asif served the country for 30 years.
PM Abbas said no one else except politician was held accountable, adding that these were politicians who have to face public after spending five years in the government. Such decisions are not accepted by Pakistani public and history.
It is the PML-N government which extended motorways and roads projects to all over the country, he said, adding that it was his party which served the country.
He also slammed the eleven points presented by Pakistan Tehreek Insaf Chairman Imran Khan during his rally at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore last week.
