The video message came as the Indian Supreme Court is hearing the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Article 35A, which grants special rights and privileges to permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir .

According to Kashmir Media Service, the three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra declined the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s request for deferment of the case until December this year and adjourned the hearing because of the absence of the third judge of the bench.

The case has been listed for next hearing on August 27.

Four petitions demanding scrapping of the provision have been moved before the Supreme Court. The main petition was filed by a Delhi-based NGO “We the Citizens”.

Meanwhile, a 14-member group of senior lawyers from Kashmir Bar Association in Indian occupied Kashmir is opposing the petitions seeking the scrapping of constitutional provisions which grant special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media service, Following its executive committee meeting in Srinagar, the Bar has constituted the 14-member team to defend Articles 35-A and 370 of the Indian constitution besides Section 6 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Bar Association has the contention that Articles 370, 35A and constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, which protect state’s special position, have been questioned to get rid of these provisions to bring J&K in the fold of Indian union as against the United Nations resolutions, the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and the International declarations.

The High Court Bar while condemning the Shopina civilian and injuring of dozens by Indian forces in southern Kashmir district, urged the International community to come forward and play its role effectively in resolving Kashmir dispute.
