JHELUM – Security agencies on Tuesday raided a hotel owned by family members of Pakistani-born London attacker, Khuram Shazad Butt and searched it thoroughly.
According to a report by Dawn News citing sources, the hotel is located on GT Road in the Mujahidabad area in Jhelum. Locals said the search was carried out in the morning.
Reportedly, police, along with Counter-Terrorism Department and Special Security Branch officials searched the restaurant belonging to Butt’s uncle.
The operation was a precautionary measure after the attacker’s link to Pakistan was uncovered by investigators, said the sources, which also suggested that Butt was not ‘radicalised’ in Pakistan, and his family was not linked to religious parties.
Meanwhile, Paksitan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Fawad Chaudhry deplored attempts to tie Khurram Butt with Jhelum city.

British Police Investigations
The British police currently thrashing out ways to smash out terrorism named two of the three attackers who killed seven people near London Bridge late on Saturday and injured dozens more, and said one of them was previously known to the security services.
London’s Metropolitan Police identified one attacker was 27-year-old Khuram Shazad Butt.
He was previously known to police and domestic spy agency, MI5 and was a British citizen who had been born in Pakistan, the police said.
He appeared in a Channel 4 documentary entitled “The Jihadis Next Door” about British extremists that was broadcast last year, British media reported.
Imams Refuse to Offer Funeral Prayers
As many as over 130 religious scholars refused to offer funeral prayers for the attackers who wrecked havoc on London Bridge Saturday night, it emerged on Tuesday.
The Imams not only refused their own services but also urged other fellow imams to do the same as the actions of attackers were against Islam.
“We will not perform the traditional Islamic funeral prayer over the perpetrators, and we also urge fellow imams and religious authorities to withdraw such a privilege. This is because such indefensible actions are completely at odds with the lofty teachings of Islam,” they said.
