Upon his arrival at GHQ, the prime minister was welcomed by the army chief. Shehbaz Sharif then paid tribute at the Martyrs’ Monument, laying a floral wreath and offering prayers.

The Defence Day ceremony was attended by members of the federal cabinet, senior civilian and military leaders, and families of the martyrs.

The event began with the national anthem, during which everyone stood in respect and sang the anthem together.

This was followed by a recitation of the Quran by Lieutenant Colonel Hafiz Rashid Ahmed, which enriched the proceedings.

Addressing the ceremony, Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir delivered a historic speech, paying tribute to all the brave martyrs and veterans of the nation. He prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks, whose sacred blood has nurtured the soil of Pakistan.

General Asim Munir cautioned against allowing political differences to turn into hatred and reaffirmed that the principles of the Quaid — faith, unity, and discipline — serve as a guiding light for the nation.

The army chief said, “Armed forces and the Pakistani people are committed to defending their integrity and will never allow nefarious intentions to succeed. Belief in Pakistan’s bright future is an essential part of patriotism.”

He urged for the adoption of unity and solidarity, stating, “Exhibit brotherhood, harmony, tolerance, and patience in social and societal matters.” He also emphasized protecting the rights of minorities in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan, free from religious intolerance.

He saluted the great spirit of the Pakistani people who, alongside the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, have steadfastly confronted tyrannical forces and enemies.

“Pakistani nation is courageous and resilient, with sacrifices in the long fight against terrorism continuing, and will persist until the defeat of terrorists, Insha’Allah.”

The army chief highlighted that the real asset of Pakistan is its youth and assured that nefarious attempts to weaken national unity will never succeed. He assured that those causing chaos at the behest of foreign interests will continue to face resistance.

General Asim Munir clarified that “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam” is not merely a new operation, but a commitment ensuring that no one will be displaced during this period. The fight against terrorism will continue, with ongoing sacrifices, he added.
