ISLAMABAD – Police have apprehended an official of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) following charges of sexually harassing an Afghan national at the Islamabad airport.
The police on Thursday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against an assistant director, who also has been suspended by the FIA.
The action was taken against the accused after Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar took notice of the incident and issued directions to conduct an investigation into the matter.
The Afghan woman has alleged in the FIR that when she along with her sister arrived at the Islamabad airport from Afghanistan, the FIA officials brought them to a secluded room at the airport after they failed to provide the telephone number of the hotel they were going to stay in.
She said that the officials after five hours removed her sister from the room under pretense of stamping her visa, adding that subsequently the accused came into the room and made unwanted sexual advances.
The victim said that she managed to escape after raising an alarm, adding that other official were present at that time but they were laughing at her instead of helping her.
Dawn News quoting police officials stated that the accused was arrested after examining the CCTV footage of the airport and verifying the allegations.
