PML-N s Abdul Ghafoor Mayo defects to PTI

LAHORE – Former Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’ loyalist, Abdul Ghafoor Mayor, jumped ship on Friday to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in another blow to the ‘House of Sharif’.

Mayo, who served as a minister under the chair of former chief minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif, had decided to part ways with embattled PML-N a few days ago.

On Friday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supremo, Imran Khan visited his residence where a formal announcement of his inclusion in the party was made.

In his remarks, Mayo lavished praise on Khan, saying he was the only leader who was working for the uplift of Pakistan.

‘I am joining PTI unconditionally,’ said the former lawmaker who had cited religious reasons for ditching PML-N.

“The PML-N government during its tenure brought changes in Elections Act 2017 and tried to omit a Khatm-e-Nabuwwat oath from lawmakers, I wanted to leave the party after the model town incident and when they hanged Mumtaz Qadri,” he had said in a press conference.

Earlier, Imran Khan had made a telephone call to the politician and had lauded him for voicing his concerns against the party leadership, saying he was a brave politician.
