Newborn baby dies after being abandoned on street in Karachi

KARACHI – A newborn baby girl has succumbed to her injuries after being allegedly abandoned by her family in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Jauhar.

The one-day-old girl who was being treated in National institute of Child Health was left to die on a street on Saturday.

Dr Ibrahim Bukhari told Daily Pakistan that the girl had multiple bruises and fractures on her body.

“She was beaten up so badly and was internally bleeding,” Bukhari added saying there is no DNA database in the country and thus it is not possible to find the parents.

Reportedly, an FIR has also been launched in Saddar Police Station. Chhipa Welfare Association has taken the responsibility of bearing the expenses of baby’s burial.

The Edhi Foundation, Pakistan’s largest welfare agency, says the number of dead babies its ambulances pick up has increased by almost 20 percent each year since 2010.  Chhipa Welfare Association and the Aman Foundation have reported similar increases.
