KARACHI – The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced an indefinite strike beginning today (8 August 2026) in protest against issues affecting the transport sector.
Speaking to private news channel, alliance president Malik Shehzad Awan confirmed the strike and said the federal government had invited representatives of the transport alliance to a meeting on Monday.
A committee has been formed to represent the transporters in talks with the government. Awan said the strike would continue until the government meeting takes place and the alliance announces its next course of action.
He said earlier negotiations between the goods transport alliance and authorities at the commissioner’s office had failed to produce an agreement.
The transporters are protesting against increases in petrol and diesel prices, the daily determination of petroleum product prices and the imposition of a seven percent withholding tax on the transport sector.
The alliance has not announced a specific end date for the strike.
