Sharoon s mother records her statement with police while accused cites broken mobile phone as reason for murder

VEHARI – One of the main accused in the killing of Sharoon Masih confessed to his involvement on Friday while denying any religious motivation behind the murder.

Ahmed Raza, one of the main accused in the murder, confessed to killing the Christian boy for breaking his mobile phone and not because of his Christian faith. Raza has also denied having any abettors and is taking the entire responsibility on himself.

However, Sharoon’s mother while recording her statement under 161 CrPC alleged that her son was discriminated against in school on the first day by the accused Ahmed Raza for being Christian and belonging to a lower class and referred him as Chuhra, a derogatory word used for sweepers.

The parents also claimed that another school boy, Sabir Ali had told them about Raza stopping Shahroon from drinking water and then beating him to death. However, Sabir Ali has not recorded his statement to the Police as his family allegedly acting under fear do not want Sabir to become part of the investigation.

However, rights activist Sharoon’s father while speaking to rights activist Jibran Nasir had mentioned there were three students involved.

On Thursday, an investigative committee consisting of ‘special team of senior officers’ was formed by DPO to probe the murder.

The probing committee that comprises three police officers including SP Zubaida Parveen and DSP Sajjad Muhammad Khan will conduct an enquiry about the actual facts of the case and ensure the arrest of the accused.

On the other hand, the post mortem report of Sharoon has revealed that he had no physical trauma caused by weapons but was injured due to punches and kicks. However, the chemical report is still pending.
