MEXICO CITY (News Desk) – While Islamabad has focused primarily on the United States’ backing for the inclusion of India in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), there are other countries also backing the South Asian giant’s bid for NSG membership.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s latest foreign trips have bolstered support for India’s NSG inclusion. After Modi’s visit to the US, America, Mexico and Switzerland have all announced to support India’s bid for NSG inclusion.
Earlier this week, Switzerland announced to support India’s application to join NSG and on Wednesday the same announcement was made by Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.

However, the positive responses from United States, Switzerland and Mexico are not enough for India to join the 48-country global forum. It must appease China as well, which is lone supporter of Pakistan at the group and could possibly vote against Indian inclusion, citing the strategic imbalance in South Asia.

The developments came as members of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) have announced to grant a membership to India. India’s inclusion in both MTCR and NSG would grant India a greater access to research and technology in these fields.
