ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold a re-election in the Punjab Assembly constituency, PP-240, of Dera Ghazi Khan.
Shamoona Qaisrani of PML-N had won the elections in 2013, but an Election Tribunal later disqualified her for hiding her assets. She moved the Supreme Court against the tribunal’s decision.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali dismissed the plea filed by Ms Qaisrani.
The apex court directed the ECP to hold fresh elections in the constituency within sixty days.
