Advocate Ishtiaq Ahmed Mirza, chairman of the I.M. Pakistan, a political party which he claimed was registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), lodged a one-page report with the Civil Lines police station on May 3.
Ahmed complained that he received a WhatsApp clip which showed the prime minister allegedly inciting people against the armed forces while delineating a speech.
The report was not a First Information Report or FIR, but a complaint against the PM in the police diary, locally knowing as ‘roznamcha’.
The police had earlier told the complainant to approach the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) since the matter was related to cyber-crime.
The complainant had, however, refused to approach the FIA arguing this was a police case and that the police was bound to register an FIR.
After the police found the content of complaint untrue and fabricated, the complaint was dismissed. However the complainant filed a petition under Section 22A in the court of a sessions judge on Monday seeking directives for the station house officer of the Civil Lines station and the sub-inspector in-charge of the police chowki district courts for the registration of an FIR.
