LAHORE – A student of Forman Christian College (FCC) was allegedly deprived of his valuables by a driver of a ride-hailing service, Uber Pakistan, in Lahore.
The student named Hassan Butt, who took an autorickshaw of Uber from Gulberg II to Gulberg III, claimed the driver fled with his luggage, including a mobile phone, worth Rs40,000 whn he went to withdraw cash from an ATM machine in Gulberg, asking the driver to wait.
Butt, immediately after the incident, lodged a complaint with the Ghalib Market Police Station and ride-hailing service company’s complaint cell against the driver, Pakistan Today reported.
The victim said that he also received a response from the company through an email, informing him that the matter would be resolved within next 12 hours, however, no development occurred.
Butt said that he received another email from the company seeking further details about the incident and assured him of resolving the issue in next 24 to 48 hours.
“I visited Uber Pakistan’s office located in Model Town but to no avail. They asked me to wait for 24 to 48 hours and be ready for cross-examination so that the issue is thoroughly investigated. I think the staff is not willing to address my complaint as they even refused to share their official contact numbers,” the media outlet quoted Butt as saying.
He further said that the police officials had not contacted him for filing an FIR.
Last month, a student of Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS) shared her ordeal, which started with an Uber ride, on social media.

Momina Ashraf, who took a cab from LUMS to Thokar Niaz Baig on Thursday, says she was asked by the Uber driver about the details about the institute.
The woman says the driver “asked me to lend my mobile phone for an emergency call but threatened me with his gun when I asked to return it”.
“In a state of utter confusion, I started calling the people outside and jumped from the car and suffered several injuries on my body,” she wrote in a post on Instagram.
