Anwar Zaheer Jamali to take oath as new Chief Justice of Pakistan on Thursday

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali will take oath as new Chief Justice of Pakistan on Thursday upon retirement of incumbent Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan Jawad S. Khawaja on September 9 (Wednesday).

President Mamnoon Hussain had approved the appointment of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan.

It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali is also heading a commission to investigate into a gun attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir. The journalist had blamed former DG ISI Lt. General Zaheer-ul-Islam for ordering the assassination attempt.

Earlier Justice Jawad S. Khawaja took oath as Chief Justice of Pakistan on August 17 after Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, who headed a commission to look into allegation of rigging in 2013’s general elections, was retired.
