ISLAMABAD – Former finance minister Ishaq Dar, who was declared absconder in a corruption reference, has reportedly filed an application seeking asylum in the United Kingdom.
The embattled leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has sought political asylum in Britain citing issues in Pakistan and health condition, Express News reported.
The development, which has not been confirmed by any PML-N leader yet, comes as the Supreme Court of Pakistan tightened the noose around Dar for not appearing before the court despite being summoned in the case pertaining to the appointment of Pakistan Television former chairman Ata ul Haq Qasmi as managing director of the state-run TV.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday warned he will cancel former the passport of former finance minister Ishaq Dar over no-show.

CJP Nisar added that the Supreme Court will mull over issuing red warrants against the leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) who has also been declared absconder by an accountability court in a corruption reference.
The former minister has been staying in London since October 2017 on account of his medical treatment; he has also been declared a proclaimed offender in a corruption case filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Recently, Dar was seen avoiding harsh questions aimed at him by newsmen in London when he was leaving the Harley Street Clinic, after having visited Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
One of the newsmen asked Dar that he was ailing, yet continued roaming outside. To which, he replied that he was ill and he knew it.
