ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif asserted on Wednesday that stern legal action will be taken against the United States air and defence attaché who recently rammed into a motorcycle and killed a 22-year-old youth.
Asif showed up in the Lower House of the parliament and answered multiple questions of members assuring that the US diplomat was still in Pakistan.
“US embassy has assured full cooperation in the investigation,” he announced.
US Defence and Air Attaché Colonel Joseph Emanuel ran a red light at the intersection of Margalla Road and 7th Avenue and collided with a motorcyclist on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Ateeq Baig. The 22-year-old youngster hailed from Talhar village in the Margalla Hills while his father works as a security guard at a govt school in Saidpur village.
The victim’s father in his complaint to the police stated that his son and nephew were coming from Daman-e-Koh side when they were hit by a land cruiser coming from F-8 side.
A traffic police official, who was on duty immediately responded to the accident and informed the local police, who arrived and took the US colonel and his car to the nearby Kohsar Police Station in F-7.
In a statement issued earlier, Islamabad police said they could not arrest Emanuel as the Vienna convention provided him immunity.
Victims Move IHC
An application was filed with the Islamabad High Cout (IHC) seeking arrest of the US diplomat by the father of the killed youth, Ateeq Baig.
In his application, he stated that Colonel Joseph Emanuel Hall, US defence and air attaché was drunk when he hit his vehicle into the motorbike, killing his son on the spot and injuring the pillion rider.

He urged the court to arrest the accused pleading that Hall’s name should be put on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The aggrieved father said that the Kohsar police station lodged FIR against the foreign diplomat due to the influence of media, claiming that the police was not taking action against the accused.
The US military attache, SHO Kohsar police station and others have been made respondents in the case.
