KARACHI – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, in a dramatic move, has removed Dr Farooq Sattar as their convener for altering the party’s constitution without taking Raabita Committee members into consideration.
This was announced by deputy convener Kanwar Naveed Jameel announced at a televised press conference at Karachi’s Bahadurabad on Sunday.
“There are many reasons why Farooq Sattar was removed from his position,” Naveed Jamil explained.
However, he clarified that Farooq Sattar will remain a member of the party,
The announcement came hours after the Election Commission of Pakistan allowed MQM-P deputy-convener, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the power to hand out party tickets for upcoming Senate elections.
“The registration of a party as organized as the MQM was cancelled by the ECP only due to the negligence of Dr Farooq Sattar.”
“Despite continuous reminders from the coordination committee, Sattar did not file the party workers’ wealth statements with the ECP, due to which the party’s registration was cancelled,” he explained.
“Dr Farooq Sattar also altered the party constitution to his own benefit and siphoned all authorities and powers to himself,” he further alleged while announcing the reasons why Sattar was removed.
