She was pulled out of the washroom by a McDonald’s employee
Karachi- on 3rd February afternoon a transgender woman after a professional meeting needed to use the restroom. When she approached the restroom an employee “Tanveer” who was working at McDonald’s Gulshan-e-Jauhar Karachi told her that she cannot use the ladies room as she is a transgender.
What happened next was shocking. He told her
“You people are not allowed here”
To which the woman replied “What do you see here”
The employee ridiculed her telling her “Whatever! You are a man or a woman, you are not allowed here”
Now this wasn’t it. The woman was shamed and was made fun in front of her brother who happened to be in men’s room. When he intervened and said that this will be reported along with your name he brushed it off by saying “Go ahead mention my name wherever you want to.”
Such incidents show how humanity is lost somewhere, how less educated and aware people are around us. As McDonald’s is an international chain such “rules” must be avoided. Customer care is the utmost priority of any restaurant regardless of their gender and colour. Where are we going as a nation? It is not for us to judge or question a person based on their sexual choices or desires. Our education is useless if we are forgetting humanity and decency.
Restaurants should introduce unisex restrooms which the third gender people can use without any inconvenience or shame. Such acts should be snubbed and such employees should be trained well enough before sending them down to the customers. Respect and dignity is everyone’s right. Gender neutral restrooms should be encouraged in every restaurant.
