PESHAWAR -An explosion ripped through a local hotel, leaving five people dead and two injured in wee hours of Friday, local media reported.
The blast occurred at the fourth floor in Room No 408 of the Hotel Afandi located in Bilal Town area of the city. A family, comprising a man named Kamran, his wife, three children and two of his nephews, had come from Hangu for medical treatment of a patient and staying in the hotel, police said.
In the explosion, Kamran and his family died while his brother’s sons received burn injuries. The injured have been shifted to Rawalpindi in critical condition.
Following the blast, security officials along with bomb disposal squad reached the site and covered the area.
According to Addition Inspector General Shafqat, it was a cylinder blast and no any explosive material was found during the search. He suspected that the cylinder blew up when it was turned on for cooking something.
Hotel damaged as fire that erupted following the blast engulfed other floors of the building, the police official said, adding that vehicles parked near the hotel also spoiled during the incident.
