KARACHI – The Muharram-ul-Haram’s crescent has been sighted in the country, therefore the new Hijri year 1440 will begin on September 12.
The day of Ashura, which marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) – the grandson of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) – will be observed on September 21, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Tuesday.
A meeting of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee took place on Tuesday for the sighting of Muharram-ul Haram moon which marks the advent of the new Hijri year 1440.
Chairman Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman presided over the meeting of the moon sighting body at Pakistan Meteorological Department’s office in the metropolis.
Strict security measures will be taken during Muharram and law enforcers have their security plans ready.
