LAHORE – Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the former first daughter, was in the Adiala Jail to serve his term following conviction in the Avenfield case when she learned about the death of her mother, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, in London.
When she along with her father, Nawaz Sharif, and husband Captain (retd) Safdar, was released from the jail on parole in the wee hours of Wednesday, she shared her sorrowful feelings after media persons approached her.
Bravely controlling her emotions over the great loss, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader said: “Today was extremely difficult after learning of the death of my mother”.
Maryam said that she was in extreme pain for not being with her mother during her last moments of life, adding, “I am deeply saddened.”
She also appealed to the Pakistani people to pray that God grants her mother the highest place in Paradise.
Kulsoom, 68, wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, breathed her last on Tuesday at a hospital in London after a prolonged illness. She was diagnosed with lymphoma last year, barely a month after Nawaz Sharif was removed from office by the Supreme Court.
