Government bans Ansarul Sharia after finding it to be involved in militancy

ISLAMABAD – Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday informed that government has decided to ban Ansarul Sharia, a terrorist group involved in different militant activities.

Talking to media in Islamabad, he said that the process has been started, adding that four key leaders of the organization have been arrested so far, while hunt for the others is underway.

“The accused group came to the forefront when evidence was found and arrests were made after the attack on Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan last week”, a police report added.

The Interior Minister said that DG Rangers has briefed him about a major breakthrough in the case and major arrests are expected in the coming days.

He vowed to drive the National Action Plan in a better way and prevent the educated youth from menace of terrorism.

Regarding Dr Asim Hussain, a close aide of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari facing corruption charges, Iqbal said that Asim was allowed to travel abroad following the order of the Supreme Court.
