Can't even think about resignation as SC would hear us, says PM Nawaz
ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that he could not even think about tendering resignation on the basis of the report put forth by the Joint Investigation Team as the apex court would give them opportunity to clarify the position.

Chairing a session of parliamentary leaders of ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, the premier expressed that God willing he will continue to fight for the people of Pakistan till the last point.

Addressing the participants, who welcomed the permier by raising hands as he moved in, the premier said the country has been going through ups and downs in the last 70 years, adding that civilian governments have been dismissed in the country on accusations of corruption and being a 'security risk' in the past.

He declared that only the staunch political rivals who did not vote him were demanding the resignation.

However, 'You and people of the country are standing by us' he said.

He conveyed that in the last four decades, the government had set up various development projects, including power generation schemes and motorways, in Karachi and Punjab but not a single allegation of corruption surfaced.

The premier observed that the report by the JIT did not present credible documents to contradict the evidence presented by Sharif family adding that it was a combination of baseless allegations put forth by his opponents.

'There is not a single word about the corruption committed by Nawaz Sharif in the JIT report' maintained the prime minister.

Nawaz Sharif expressed that at times he feels that he should reveal all the secrets including the ones related to the sit-ins but said a time would come when the truth would surface.

He said that he was being punished for putting Pakistan back on the way to prosperity and progress.

It bears mentioning that the meeting was held just a day after the premier chaired a session of the cabinet during which he affirmed that he would not resign despite repeated demands.

Friday's meeting, held at the PM Office, was attended by the party's National Assembly members and senators but according to sources, interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan did not attend the crucial huddle.
