PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE: Social network launched in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR (Web Desk) – SPADO has launched a localized social network to promote the concept of peaceful co-existence among the youth of Bahawalpur under its Umeed Jawan Project.

According to the details Sustainable Peace and Development Organization (SPADO) arranged two events on the topic “Youth Engagement and Capacity Building for a Peaceful Bahawalpur” to launch the project in collaboration with its local partner GOHER Foundation on 2nd May and 10th of May ,2015 respectively.

Stakeholders particularly from the South Punjab who are very concerned about the peace and security situations in the country were sensitized on the role and importance of productive youth engagement. In this regard two advocacy andawareness events were held iniviting,politicians, progressive relgious leaders, academia, experts, government officials and NGOs leaders and the youth to discuss the challenges, issues and opportunities for the youth in South Punjab. Approximately 62 people attended the 1st advoacy event and 84 people attended 2nd Advocacy evet at local hotel in Bahawalpur.

Project Manager Ms.Nasreen Samad briefed the participants about the objectives and achievements of the project. Then young speakers, Ali Raza Tahir, M. Usama Laique, Muzammil Fayyaz, Zahra Aslam, Muzammil Aftab,Irfana Malik, Fahad Ali , Nabeel Akhtar, Mian Rehan, Umer Majeed, Tehseen Zahra, Sadaf Zareen, Mehwish Gulzar and Faisal Siddique highlighted different burning issues which are threating peace and also talked about their solution ,among these issues were poverty,corruption,poor justice system, Violation of Human Rights,illiteracy,feudalism,role of social media, misuse of new technology, lack of peace education in curriculum ,lack of tolerance, sectarian violence and unemployment.

Among the guest were Mr Sahid Abdullah representative M.Baleegh-ur-Rehaman minister of state for interior and education, Ms Fouzia ayyub qurteshi MPA, Ms Sabiha Nazeer qureshi MNA, Dr Zahid Hassan , Prof. Dr Zawar Hussain from SE college of Bahawalpur, Prof .Salma khan registrar sadiq women University, Prof. mumtaz hussain Govt Degree college,Prof Aon Saeedi Jamia Nizam-i-Mistaf ,Abdul Razzaq Shaiq head of the Markazi Melad-i- Mustafa Bahwalpur,Imran bhinder Dawn TV and Amjad Awanfrrom daily Ausaf.They guest appreciated the objectives of the project and the efforts of Spado Umeed Jawan and Goher foundation to engage youth of Bahawalpur in the peace building process.

Mr. A.G Chohan, Executive Director GOHER Foundation concluded the event by a question answer sessionwith the participants in which the youth asked different question about the challenges and opportunities for youth. He said that youth is our future and hope and teachers have the maximum responsibility of their character buildingMr. Chohan assured the youth of all possible support by SPADO & GOHER.Youth Leadership & Empowerment Center, capacity building, advocacy, networking and career counseling. Spado project team encouraged the youth to be the part of Umeed Jawan youth network.
