Punjab College students in Lahore protested with demonstrations over the rape of a student, demanding prompt justice. The students called for accountability in other rape cases, and cited threats from college administration.
Students of several other colleges also protested outside Campus 10. The demonstration aims to demand justice for a victim of a recent alleged assault and to hold the college administration accountable for its handling of the situation.
The protest comes in the wake of a shocking incident where a first-year student was reportedly raped by a security guard. The student is currently in hospital after being trapped in the college basement during a break, leading to the alleged assault.
The accused has been arrested for allegedly raping a student, Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Karman confirmed that a special team was formed to investigate the situation after unverified reports emerged.
Punjab college administration is cooperating with the investigation, police said which aligns with the Punjab Government’s “zero-tolerance” policy towards violent crime.
On the other hand, demonstrators accuse the administration of prioritizing the institution’s reputation over student safety and transparency, fueling widespread outrage within the community. Students and supporters are expected to gather to voice their demands for justice and accountability in this serious matter.
This protest highlights ongoing concerns about campus safety and the need for transparent handling of such incidents in educational institutions.
