Indian national arrested from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR – An Indian national was arrested from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram District on Wednesday, according to law enforcement agencies.

Security officials told the media that Ram Bahar entered Pakistan via Afghanistan but was arrested at Parachinar airport.

The man, who hails from Gujarat state in India, only speaks his native language. He did not possess any relevant identification documents but is thought to be between the age of 35-36.

Further investigation is underway, the official said.

Last month, Pakistan and India exchanged lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen of each country through diplomatic channels in Islamabad and New Delhi.

“This is consistent with the provisions of the Consular Access Agreement between Pakistan and India, signed on 21 May 2008, under which both countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody twice a year, on 1 January and 1 July, respectively,” said a statement by the Foreign Office.

In 2016, Pakistani forces arrested Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian navy commander in the service of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), from Balochistan.

In a subsequent video, he had confessed that RAW was sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan. He was sentenced to death by a court after a trial. India has moved International Court of Justice against Jadhav’s sentencing.
