PTI MPA Imran Shah apologises to citizen after beating him up in Karachi

KARACHI – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) newly elected provincial lawmaker Imran Ali Shah, who thrashed a motorist in middle of a Karachi road, reached the victim’s house and apologised for his action, hours after the video of the incident went viral.

Shah, a new MPA of the Sindh Assembly, along with PTI’s Karachi chapter President Firdous Shamim Naqvi, went to Daud Chuhan’s residence on Tuesday night seeking forgiveness.

Chauhan, who is the senior additional director for coordination at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), forgave the PTI leader, saying he cannot send a person back empty-handed who comes to my door.

Daud, who is still unsure why the MPA beaten him up, hoped: “PTI chief Imran Khan will serve justice in the matter as the ball is now in his court”.

Maintaining his innocence in the matter, the victim said that Shah’s vehicle was hit by another motorist and not by him.

“We had resolved the matter whereafter Imran Ali Shah slapped me,” he said, adding that he did not want to take legal action the MPA. Shah is wealthy and powerful as he has dozens of guards, the victim said.

According to some social media users, Imran Shah allegedly thrashed the local man who tried to cross MPAs luxury vehicle. MPAs guards also abused the citizen.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Faisal Vawda termed this act highly unacceptable behaviour in any case, saying no one is above the law. “I apologise on behalf of my party MPA and rest assured justice will be done and will make sure it’s not repeated again.”

PTI has also issued a show cause notice to MPA Imran Shah seeking clarification from him.

Netizens have lambasted the cruel behaviour of the MPA and demanded PTI to take stern disciplinary action against the culprit.

However, newly-elected MPA Dr Imran Ali Shah has given a clarification on Twitter and said: “Being a responsible citizen and a member of the provincial assembly I have more responsibility towards my people, The viraled clip is half-truth and misleading. I cannot turn a blind eye on someone doing injustice to a citizen for any reason.”
