ISLAMABAD – Anwar Majeed, a close aide and an alleged frontman of former president Asif Ali Zardari was arrested on Wednesday in the high-profile money laundering probe currently being conducted by the top court.
Majeed turned up before the apex court along with his son, Abdul Ghani Majeed in a case regarding the alleged money laundering of Rs 35 billion but was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency.
Majeed requested a protective bail in the case, however, he was nabbed on the directives of the Supreme Court, which is keenly investigating the illegal transfer of money through 29 bank accounts.
Majeed, who owns the Omni group, was asked to appear before the apex court during the last hearing, following which he turned up along with his four sons – one of whom was taken into custody by FIA.
