LAHORE (Staff Report) – After Pakistani Foreign Office said that it was unaware if Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) chief Moulana Masood Azhar were arrested or taken into protective custody, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has confirmed that JeM chief was under protective custody’ of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
Talking to TV anchor Mehar Abbasi, the provincial minister said that Masood Azhar was shifted to a place being managed by CTD Punjab after his name surfaced in connection with Pathankot attack.
When asked if Masood Azhar’s protective custody could be changed into arrest on Indian demand, Rana Sanaullah said that we will act according our local laws and if there would be reasonable evidences against JeM chief we would not only arrest him but also try him in Pakistani courts.
Earlier on Thursday the Foreign Office spokesman refused to comment on a question related to Masood Azhar’s arrest or protective custody, saying that he was unaware of any such development.
