Tarbela, Mangla power houses trip due to technical fault

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Many areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) were left without electricity when Tarbela and Mangla power houses tripped on Friday morning, said a spokesman for WAPDA.

Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) said that the sudden breakdown of electricity took place place due to unidentified technical fault in both power houses.

“WAPDA engineers are working for earliest resolution of problem to restore electricity supply to all affected areas,” the spokesman added.

While the two major power houses of country remain tripped the affected areas of country are being supplied electricity through alternative sources. It will take at least 15 hours to run all the units of the two powerhouses at full capacity once again, he said.

It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that Mangla and Tarbela power houses respectively produce 1000MW and 3400MW of electricity. The produced electricity is mainly supplied to northern areas of country.
