Avalanche kills Indian army captain in Siachen

JAMMU (Web Desk) – A captain of the Indian Army has been killed in an avalanche at the Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh region, official sources confirmed yesterday.

“Captain Ashwini Kumar of Ladakh Scouts was killed when an army patrol was hit by an avalanche in the southern ridge of the Siachen Glacier,” said Colonel SD Goswami, spokesman of the army’s Udhampur-based Northern Command, FirstPost reported.

The others in the army patrol were rescued, and the injured were being treated, the colonel said.

Siachen is regarded as the world’s highest battlefield where the Indian and Pakistan Army face each other in an eyeball-to-eyeball situation.
