LAHORE- Karan Johar’s upcoming venture Kalank has already created quite a buzz among the audience, especially after Alia Bhatt revealed she drew inspiration for her role from Sanam Saeed’s Kashaf in ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’.
Now, Sanjay, who plays Balraj in the film, has shared how his avatar has an emotional connection to his father and his roots in Pakistan, reported India Today.
‘Kalank’ is a pre-Independence film. The actor revealed that he had to play the role of Balraj which is his father’s real name who also migrated from Pakistan to India during Partition. Sanju also shared how the idea of Kalank was mentioned by Yash Johar in 1993.
The Sanju actor said, “During the shooting of ‘Gumrah’ in 1993 Yash uncle had briefly mentioned about the story. Dharma Productions is like family; so when Karan approached me with the film, I had to do it,”
“It is also a coincidence that my character is named Balraj, which is my father’s real name. He too came from Pakistan during Partition, so it has an emotional connect.”
The film houses a star-studded cast including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and Sonakshi Sinha in leading roles. Kalank also marks the reunion of Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt after 22 years.
The period movie ‘Kalank’ will hit screens on 17th April.
