Probe in Zainab case may get a boost as new experts team up with JIT

LAHORE – Days after the joint investigation team (JIT), formed to probe Kasur rape case, failed to trace prime accused so far, a team of investigators has been called from another district to resolve the case.

Regional Police Officer Multan, Mohammad Idrees Khan, who is heading the JIT, has ordered Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Vehari Umar Saeed Malik and his team to assist the investigation team in the Zainab case.

Zainab was kidnapped on January 4 when she was on her way to Holy Quran class. Her body was discovered five days later from a garbage pile. The post-mortem report revealed that the minor girl had been raped and murdered.

Umar Saeed Malik is an officer, who along with his team solved a same kind of case within seven days in Melsi, Tehsil of Vehari district, where a person named Asif raped a seven-year-old girl, identified as Zehra, and killed him. After killing the minor girl, the accused had buried the body near a canal.

The incident happened on recent 12 Rabbiul Awwal and the police traced and arrested the suspect within seven days. The culprit had also been spent seven years in jail for assaulting a minor girl and released in 2016.

The performance of the Vehari police was widely hailed for solving the matter within days. Now, it is yet to see whether the expert team could trace the accused in Zainab case within seven days.
