Sharif family avoids raising objection to JIT report in SC ahead of Panama case hearing

ISLAMABAD – Contrary to the popular perception, the ruling Sharif family has not submitted any objections before the Supreme Court (SC) to the Panama case joint investigation team’s (JIT) explosive report.

Media reports on Saturday suggested that the embattled family had prepared a draft petition to confront the JIT report apparently in flagrant contradiction with the claims of family about its offshore assets.

According to a report by Dawn News, ruling family’s legal team is waiting for reports on the credibility of the forensic and financial experts engaged by the JIT, and hopes to confront the inquiry panel with that information on Monday.

A three-member bench of the SC headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal is set to hear the Panamagate implementation case in the light of JIT report. The court, on July 10, had ordered the parties to submit their replies by July 17 after reviewing copies of the JIT report.

The apex court had also sought transcripts of speeches made by PML-N leaders Saad Rafique, Talal Chaudhry and Asif Kirmani, which have already been submitted by the attorney general’s office.

The security in the premises of top court has been beefed up as political rivals would show up to throw weight behind their leaders.

Apart from Panama case, the apex court had also sought reply from the Jang group for its inaccurate story about the JIT report filed by reporter Ahmad Noorani.
