LAHORE (Staff Report) – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)for the placement of PhD students was signed between the Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Communication Studies department and the School of Journalism and Cultural Studies at Cardiff University in the UK.
The program will give students international exposure and strengthen their research skills.
Signing the agreement, Professor Allan of Cardiff University said in a video message: “We are very excited about this new agreement which will afford us an opportunity to explore different ways in which our respective institutions can collaborate and exchange ideas.”
“These include exploring some of the pressing social issues that are confronting the world of journalism in our digital age, especially around areas such as teaching and research which are so important to both our universities,” he added.
The Chairman, Department of Communication Studies at BZU-Multan, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Shabbir in his address congratulated the PhD students, teaching faculty and others on this achievement.
He explained that Cardiff University is among the leading universities in UK and ranked 122nd in ‘QS World ranking’. He said that the programme has been officially launched to enhance research skills of PhD students enrolled in the Department of Communication Studies at BZU-Multan.
Dr. Shahzad Ali, Associate Professor, BZU Communication Studies dept., and Post Doctoral Fellow at Cardiff University, UK also addressed the ceremony via telephone.
He explained that this agreement would last for the period of three years and 4 PhD students would visit Cardiff University, UK on yearly basis.
Visiting students will be treated as full-time students during their period of study at Cardiff University and will have access to the library, computing, recreational and social facilities of the University on the same basis as Cardiff University’s other degree-seeking students.
Besides a number of students, Prof. Dr. Idress Lodhi, Dr. Imran Sharif, Babar Khaqan, Aqsa Iram, Samia Manzoor, Aamir Rizvi and Muhammad Makkey Bhutta also attended the ceremony.
