Col Sohail Abid, who embraced martyrdom in Balochistan operation, laid to rest in Vehari

VEHARI – The funeral prayers for Military Intelligence Colonel Sohail Abid were offered in his native village in Vehari following which he will be laid to rest in Rawalpindi’s Army Graveyard.

Col Sohail embraced martyrdom on Wednesday during an operation in Balochistan, in which high-value target of banned terror group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) was killed along with two other terrorists, who were involved in the killings of over 100 innocent people of Hazara community and police personnel.

During an intense exchange of fire, Colonel Sohail Abid of Military Intelligence embraced martyrdom, while four soldiers were left injured.

Security personnel conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Killi Almas, Balochistan, on the tip-off of an under custody suspect about the presence of suicide bombers along with other terrorists in hideouts located in the vicinity, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

“During the intense exchange of fire, Colonel Sohail Abid of Military Intelligence embraced shahadat while 4 soldiers got injured among whom 2 were critical,” the ISPR added.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of Colonel Sohail Abid.

“Our soldiers have paid the price of freedom with blood and there is no higher sacrifice than it. We as a nation are united than ever against the coward enemy,” said Abbasi.

Moreover, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan paid rich tributes to the martyred officer.
