ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Sitara Ayaz, who is facing Rs 1 billion corruption charges, has taken refuge in Parliament Lodges to avoid an immediate arrest, Samaa reported.
“A Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission team, which is in Islamabad these days, has sought help from capital city police to bring the former provincial social welfare minister to task…but to no avail.”
According to Nasir Durrani, Inspector General (IG) Capital Territory Police, an action inside the lawmakers’ official residential area requires permission from the chairman of the upper house.
“We deliberately refrained from going after the ANP leader as we do not want to become a party in this rather political matter,” Durrani said.
The politic police officer has also tried to convince the accountability commission to arrest Sitara Ayaz in Khyber Pkhtunkhwa and not in the federal capital.
“We are not saying no to you (commission), but I am advising you in good conscience that you should wait until she ruturns home… As soon as she is there have her taken into custody,” the sources quoted the IG as saying.
