World Heritage Day being marked today

LAHORE (Staff Report) – International Day for Monuments and Sites (IDMS) is being observed today (Monday) with theme “The Heritage of Sport.” The  day is commonly known as World Heritage Day.

It aims to bring global attention to the need to conserve and protect monuments and sites as our cultural heritage and to “celebrate the diversity of this heritage”.

Since sports have developed from the origin of humankind on wards and have left testimonies to the diversity of installations and facilities related to their practice, many of them bearing values related to the development of architecture, art and techniques.

Every year on April 18, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) celebrates the “International Day for Monuments and Sites”, whose establishment was approved by the 22nd UNESCO General Conference in 1983.
