Lithuanian mother gets custody of children for 3 months

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court gave on Wednesday the custody of three children to their foreign national mother for the period of three months.

A two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, issued the order while hearing a petition filed by a Lithuanian woman, Maimouna Liskauskaite, for the custody of her three daughters – Ayesha, Maryam, and Amna.

The bench, during the hearing, remarked that it was an established fact that the father, Jamshed Siddque, had abducted the children from Dubai. The court also ordered the police to lodge an FIR against the Father.

According to the petition, Liskauskaite converted to Islam on January 7, 2004, of her own free will and married Siddique in Lithuania.

Later, the Lithuanian woman, her husband and minor daughters settled in Dubai, however, on April 4, 2011, Siddique silently moved to Pakistan along with the children and left the woman alone in Dubai following which he sent her divorce papers on April 7, 2011.

Liskauskaite had looked for her daughters since then and moved the apex court to meet his children after finding their whereabouts.

During today’s hearing, the court later took back its order to register a case against Siddique and said that a monitor judge will be appointed to check if the children were staying with their mother.

At the last hearing, the top court had ordered a meeting between a Lithuanian mother and her three daughters.

During court proceedings, the CJP inquired the children if they had met their mother, to which the 13-year-old Maryam replied that she did not know Maimouna.

When the bench directed court officials to arrange a meeting between the children and their mother, Maryam said she would meet Maimouna in presence of her father, riling the top judge.

“This is your upbringing? You have poisoned their minds” inquired Justice Nisar from the father Jamshed Siddiqui.
