Pakistani sprinter Nadia Nazeer, five-year-old son killed in road accident

KARACHI – Pakistani sprinter Nadia Nazeer and her five-year-old son were killed in a road accident in Punjab’s Bahawalnagar district on Saturday.

According to the details, Nadia was heading back to Sahiwal after attending a wedding ceremony with her husband and son when a speeding trailer rammed into their car at Chishtian Road near Ada Amin Kot.

The accident left Nadia and her son Huzaifa dead, while her husband was injured and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Nadia hailed from Sahiwal city in Punjab and she held the distinction of winning five bronze medals in international 400 metre sprints.

In the year 2007, Nadia made a national record by jumping 10 obstacles in 1:10 minutes in a national competition in Karachi. She broke her own record a year later in 2008, Dawn News reported.

In 2011, the athlete got hitched in Bahawalnagar, however she continued chasing her passion with same enthusiasm

After her marriage, she participated in a national competition in 2013, where she stood first in the 100 metre sprint, and was awarded best player in football. Since 2002, she had been playing for Wapda.

Nadia had the honour of being a national champion four times.
