Dar directs Privatisation Commission to ensure transparency in divestment process

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has asked Privatisation Commission to ensure transparency and accountability in divestment.

He was chairing Cabinet Committee on Privatization in Islamabad.

The meeting considered various options presented by the Privatisation Division for divestment of Faisalabad Electric Supply Corporation and Thermal Power Station Muzaffargarh of Northern Power Generation Company limited.

The Chairman Privatisation Commission apprised the Minister about the progress achieved in this regard.

Earlier, addressing in Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce, Ishaq Dar said the role of business community is vital for economic development and stability of Pakistan.

He said withholding tax has been imposed on those who do not file tax returns.

The Minister said the government strengthened country’s economy in two years instead of four.

Three stock exchanges have been merged to promote investment.

Tax receipts have increased by 33 percent in two years.

Dar said international organizations have acknowledged progress in Pakistan’s economy. He said Pakistan will be made world’s 18th top economy.
