PESHAWAR (Staff Report) – At least seven people were killed and 39 others injured when a powerful blast hit a check post of security forces near Karkhano market in Jamrut area of Peshawar, said officials on Tuesday.
One child was also among dead while the number of casualties is feared to rise as many of the injured were in serious condition, according to rescue sources.
Eye witnessed said that gunfire was also heard at the site after the blast.
Rescue teams and law enforcement agencies rushed to blast site immediately. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals. The forces cordoned off the area.
The blast took place when a large number of commuters were passing by the check post.
Officials said that investigation about the nature of blast was still underway and nothing could be said immediately. However they feared that it was a suicide blast.
