Pakistan expects Iran, Afghanistan to act against terrorist group behind highway massacre

ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Saturday that Pakistan expected both Iran and Afghanistan to take action against the terrorist group responsible for the killing of 14 passengers in Ormara.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Qureshi said that an alliance of a number of Baloch terrorist organisations, BRAS, had claimed responsibility for the massacre and the whole country was angry and upset and wanted to know why this incident had taken place and who was behind it.

The foreign minister said on the basis of verified information, it was confirmed that that the training and logistical camps of this new alliance were based inside Iran’s borders adding that this information has been shared with Iranian authorities as well.

The minister told newsmen that the location of the camps has also been identified and Pakistan expects Iran to take action against these outfits.

Qureshi expressed that Pakistan also expects action to be taken by Afghanistan as the BRA’s presence and leadership had also been identified there.

The foreign minister shared that he had spoken to his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and shared the sentiments of the Pakistani people as well as the expectations of the government.

According to Qureshi, Zarif too had condemned the incident and said that it was not just an attack on Pakistan besides ensuring that Iran would help Pakistan locate the terrorists.

At least 14 passengers were offloaded from a bus and picked out with the help of their National Identity Cards (NICs), before being shot dead by unidentified assailants on the Makran Coastal Highway in Ormara, Balochistan on Thursday.

Pakistan’s concerns come a day before Prime Minister Imran is set to visit Iran for a two-day official visit on the invitation of the President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani.
