Two-time Pakistani Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been nominated for National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications [NAMIC] Vision Awards 2019 for her collaborative HBO Sports documentary ‘Student Athlete’.
These awards acknowledge original content that best reflects the depth and breadth of the lives, spirit and contributions of people of colour.
Student Athlete has been created in association with LeBron James, Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson at SpringHill Entertainment and Steve Stoute at United Masters while it has been co-directed by Sharmeen (HBO’s Oscar winners Saving Face and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness) and Trish Dalton (Bordering on Treason).
Student Athlete highlights the complex rules of amateur athletics in America and showing how they influence uncompensated athletes and their families. It reveals the deceitful world of high-revenue college sports by narrating the stories of four young men at different stages in their sports careers.
Sharmeen is nominated along with other notable nominees including Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Mishel Prada, Sesame Street and Michelle Obama to name a few.
