PM Abbasi, Nawaz discuss caretaker setup in London meeting as election looms

LONDON – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday vowed to win the upcoming general election with the  main slogan of the party regarding sanctity of vote.

Talking to media after an informal meeting with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in London, Abbasi said that the Pakistan  Muslim-League-Nawaz (PML-N) will not only contest the elections but also bag the victory.

Responding to a question, the prime minister said that the name of caretaker PM will be finalised with the consultation of Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah. He added that elections will be held on time.

He also rejected the impression that Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz will not return to Pakistan, avoiding accountability court proceedings.

Nawaz along with Maryam and Captain (retd) Safdar reached London earlier this week to visit his wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, who is suffering from cancer disease.

The former prime minister also said that he was not like the former military dictator General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, adding that he will go back to Pakistan.

A matter regarding selecting name of caretaker prime minister was also discussed during the meeting with Abbasi, the former premier said.

PML-N’s five-year term is going to complete on May 31 and later a caretaker government will hold the general elections in country within no more than three months under the Constitution.
