ISLAMABAD - The outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali has said that social media was rampant with conspiracies against the legal system.

Speaking during a farewell dinner organised by the District Bar Association, Mirpurkhas, the Chief Justice of Pakistan took aim at the media adding that people involved in yellow journalism should review their behaviour.

He stated that the judiciary respected freedom of press, but that there were futile arguments and discussions being aired by the media targeting judiciary in particular.

Jamali said that a coup was imposed on the judiciary through the PCO (Provisional Constitutional Order) and judicial fraternity should try not to let this happen again as it affected the performance of the judicial system.

"We believe in complete freedom of the judiciary," said Jamali.

CJ categorically expressed that the current judicial system was not fulfilling the expectations of litigants.

The dinner was attended by the Supreme Court’s Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Mushir Alam, the Sindh High Court’s Chief Justice Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah and many other judges.

Later, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, inaugurated the building and library of the Mirpurkhas District Bar Association.
