Shamoon Abbasi to play Pakistan’s most notorious serial killer

LAHORE – Pakistani acclaimed star Shamoon Abbasi will be portraying murderer and rapist Jawed Iqbal in his upcoming web series titled as, “The Urban Legend of Jawed Iqbal and the 100 smiles.”

The web series will be based on the life of a notorious killer and his victims. This is not the first time Shamoon is working on a darker topic as besides this web series the star is doing another movie Durj, in which he will be seen as a cannibal. Both the upcoming projects of Abbasi are based on real events.

We must say Shamoon is a daring person inside out as it is very difficult to deal with the darkest stories of the society. The star had also shared his views for his upcoming intense projects with a English publication ‘Daily Times’ that “I am not in any race of being cast by any channels. I am making my own mark in what I like to do. I have been cast as a villain since Waar became a super hit. After that no one gave me a good role.” stated the actor with laughter.

Shamoon had also claimed that the movies like Durj and The Urban Legend of Jawed Iqbal and the 100 smiles will interest the audience much more than any item number or glamorous film.

Shamoon had also shared the nature of the intense roles being played by him, while saying that “Javed Iqbal is completely different from my character, Gul, in Durj,” he said. “I’m playing a privileged man in this web series. Gul wasn’t anywhere near our living standards.”

Here is the poster for upcoming web-series based on notorious serial killer Javed Iqbal:

The poster for the project is being circulated on social media but Abbasi had mentioned to the media officials that this is not the final poster as the title varies.

Javed Iqbal was a Pakistani serial killer who was found guilty of the sexual abuse and murder of 100 boys in the early 21st century.

In December 1999, Iqbal sent a letter to police and a Lahore newspaper’s chief news editor Khawar Naeem Hashmi confessing to the murders of 100 boys, all aged between 6 and 16.

In the letter, he claimed to have strangled and dismembered the victims – mostly runaways and orphans living on the streets of Lahore – and disposed of their bodies using vats of hydrochloric acid. He then dumped the remains in a local river. In his house, police and reporters found bloodstains on the walls and floor with the chain with which

Iqbal had claimed to have strangled his victims, Two vats of acid with partially dissolved human remains were also left in the open for police to find, with a note claiming “the bodies in the house have deliberately not been disposed of so that authorities will find them.”

Back then, Iqbal had also stated that he had surrendered to the newspaper because he feared for his life and was concerned that the police would kill him.

Iqbal was sentenced to death by hanging, the judge passed sentence saying “You will be strangled to death in front of the parents whose children you killed, Your body will then be cut into 100 pieces and put in acid, the same way you killed the children.” But later Iqbal had died mysteriously.

The release date has not been revealed by the filmmakers yet.
