ISLAMABAD – Finance Minister Asad Umar on Saturday said that the number of tax return filings surged 34 percent to 1,492,507 till December 17 – the last date for submission.
The finance minister took to Twitter to announced that 1,492,507 individuals across the country filed their tax returns this year.

Umar said the number was 34 percent higher than the number of returns filed during the same period of last year.
The government, after multiple extensions, had fixed December 17 as the last date for filing tax returns.
The individuals, whose annual salary from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 was above Rs400,000, were required to file their income tax returns along with their wealth statement for the financial year 2017-18.
