Nawaz Sharif is not a king, Kaira blasts at federal government over Rangers powers extension

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif needs to realise that he is not a king who can overrule the decisions made by provincial governments.

Talking to newsmen he went on to say that under eighteenth amendment provincial governments have been given vast mandate to take decisions about law and order situation and that federal government cannot overthrow such decisions. Federal government needs to respect the authority of Sindh government, he added.

Responding to a question he said that federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan should remain confined to his responsibilities only. His own performance as interior minister is questionable, he added.

The statement follows a notification of Interior Ministry that has extended special powers granted to Sindh Rangers in Karachi for another 60 days. The powers have been granted under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The provincial government is not authorised to limit the powers of a federal institution, the order said.
